🌿 Eco-Friendly Crafting

What makes this crochet pattern eco-friendly and sustainable?

THE YARN: I use only sustainable and eco-friendly yarn that has been ethically grown/raised and processed, putting the people and the planet first. This is why I chose 100% cotton yarn for this pattern.

HANDMADE FOR LONGEVITY: Creating your own blanket promotes mindful consumption. This durable, handmade blanket reduces the need for mass-produced alternatives.

THE SLOW YARN MOVEMENT: I’m participating in the Slow Yarn Movement. There’s far too much to talk about here, but please take a few minutes to learn about what this means by reading the article I wrote about the Slow Yarn Movement as part of my 6-part Sustainable Crochet Series.

If you’re interested in learning more about sustainable crochet you can read all about it in the 6-part series I wrote covering everything about Sustainable Crochet and how to implement it into your own crafting starting today!

Your Guide to Eco-Friendly and Sustainable Crochet Image Heart Yarn

Crochet Shell Pattern Blanket Guide:

Size & Gauge:

Size:

Stitch Multiple: 3 + 2. This means you can chain any combination of 3 stitches, plus 2 more to adjust the size

Gauge: 5 stitches x 10 rows of shell stitches (sc, dc 2) = 4×4″ square in shell stitch pattern

Size Chart:

The chart below provides measurements for standard sized blankets. Choose the size you’re making and use the chart to determine the number of starting chains you will need to complete your size, as well as the number of rows to fulfill the length of the size you’re making.

Additionally, the chart provides the number of yards of worsted/medium/4 weight yarn needed for each size. I’ve never made this blanket design in any other weight of yarn, so I am unable to verify the exact yardage needed for any other weight other than worsted.

Materials you will need:

Yarn:

Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton | 100% Cotton
Yarn Quantity: See size chart above for yardage needed for the size you’re making

If you would like to explore other yarn options, feel free! I recommend 100% cotton worsted yarn if you’re going for a lightweight, breathable and hypoallergenic fiber!
