A pineapple is a berry. No joke. It’s not a pine, it’s not an apple. It’s a berry. And the pineapple plant can live and produce for up to 50 years – producing only ONE pineapple per season. Now, how can you read that and not have a new appreciation for pineapples? Seriously. I’ve lived in Costa Rica, which is where almost 50% of all pineapples are grown, so I know these things. 😉

I also know that eating a freshly grown pineapple at the source of where it’s grown is a revolutionary pineapple experience. I just think pineapples are one of THE MOST delicious fruits, as long as it is good and ripe and ready! Cheers to the pineapple!

🌿 Eco-Friendly Crafting

What makes this crochet pattern eco-friendly and sustainable?

THE YARN: I use only sustainable and eco-friendly yarn that has been ethically grown/raised and processed, putting the people and the planet first. This is why I chose 100% natural yarn for this pattern.

HANDMADE FOR LONGEVITY: Creating your own pineapple stuffy promotes mindful consumption. This durable, handmade pineapple amigurumi reduces the need for mass-produced alternatives.

THE SLOW YARN MOVEMENT: I’m participating in the Slow Yarn Movement. There’s far too much to talk about here, but please take a few minutes to learn about what this means by reading the article I wrote about the Slow Yarn Movement as part of my 6-part Sustainable Crochet Series.

If you’re interested in learning more about sustainable crochet you can read all about it in the 6-part series I wrote covering everything about Sustainable Crochet and how to implement it into your own crafting starting today!

Finish stuffing

Rnd 29: (sc in next st, dec in next st) x5 [10]

Rnd 30: dec in each st around [5]

Cut the yarn leaving a long 24” tail for shaping and closing. Using a tapestry needle, weave the yarn through the front loop of each of the remaining stitches and pull tightly to close. Using the long yarn, push your needle through the middle of the top of the pineapple and out the middle of the magic circle on the bottom. Take a stitch here, and pass the need back through the bottom and out the top. Pull on the yarn to create a slight concave dip in the bottom of the pineapple. Once achieved, take a few stitches with the needle around the top closing of the pineapple to secure it and pull the yarn to the inside. Cut loose end.

Large Leaves – make 4

Row 1: leaving a long starting tail for sewing on, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch thereafter [4]

Row 2-10: hdc in each st across [4]

Row 11: hdc dec in next 2 [2]

Row 12-13: hdc in each st across [2]

Row 14: hdc dec [1]

Fasten off and weave in end.

Medium Leaves – make 4

Row 1: leaving a long starting tail for sewing on, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch thereafter [4]

Row 2-8: hdc in each st across [4]

Row 9: hdc dec in next 2 [2]

Row 10-11: hdc in each st across [2]

Row 12: hdc dec [1]

Fasten off and weave in end.

Small Leaves – make 4

Row 1: leaving a long starting tail for sewing on, ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch thereafter [4]

Row 2-6: hdc in each st across [4]

Row 7: hdc dec in next 2 [2]

Row 8-9: hdc in each st across [2]

Row 10: hdc dec [1]

Fasten off and weave in end.

Assembly

Sew on leaves: start with the small leaves and sew them equidistantly around Rnd 27 – your final round of taupe. Place a few stitches to connect the edges of the leaves together which will allow them to stand up straight and create a foundation for the inner, larger leaves to stand up straight and tall.

Next, layer the medium leaves inside of those, staggering them in between the small leaves. Finally, layer the large leaves inside the medium leaves, staggering them in between.
